Nearly foolproof
The Fastback from Powis Parker <www.powis.com> prevents more user errors than others I have seen. It perfectbinds paperbacks with double-sided tape. It is first heated to glue the pages and again to glue the cover in place.

Binder · A thermal tape binder costs about $4000. The glue comes on tape and is melted onto the paper.

A new "lay-flat" glue strip was added not long ago. It has two advantages. One is binding with a hollow spine. The book can be opened without creasing the spine. The other is the way the cover is attached to the text pages. Glue strips to hold the cover run down on both sides of the spine. They need no second heating, and are ideal for laserprinted covers with toner that might melt. Binding a paperback takes about 45 seconds.
