Do they bring good luck, foretell the future, and reveal deep truths? Probably not, but some people swear they do.
A magic square is an interesting arrangement. Add up the numbers of any column, any row, or either main diagonal, and the sum is the same. The Chinese already knew this in 650 BC.
The formula is simple enough, and works with magic squares large or small. Like many other mathematical puzzles, it has few applications except to amuse the senses and sharpen the mind.
