Jonathan Harris

Meet Jonathan Harris, genius
With his generous help, we have a great new way of adding joins. (Photo editing by his wife Amber.)

The Joiner program

Formidable instrument, now at your disposal

V isual Basic was dropped from the 2008 version of Microsoft Office. Users could no longer run their own macros. One such had worked for years, carefully adding joins to 1177 letter combinations of the italic model alphabet. The sentence “To be or not to be, that is the question” took it about a minute and a half.

Mr. Harris’s new program adds joins to the five acts of Hamlet, from ghostly beginnings to deadly end, in a second or two.
