  The book

On the whole, ascenders should start at the same height. Descenders should have the same reach. (See the book, page 13.) There are a few exceptions.

The letters f and the long s are usually lower than the other ascending letters. The letter t should be high enough not to be mistaken for the letter c. Arrighi tended to write letter z extravagantly and exceed normal boundaries.

Two letters f, side by side, can make an interesting combination. The second letter is written slightly higher than the first, with a straight descender and serifs at the bottom.
Arrighi put long letters s together the same way, and any combination of the letter f and the the long s. (See the book, page 16.)
